NSE and BSE Closed Today for Mahashivratri 2024

In observance of Mahashivratri 2024, both the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and NSE (National Stock Exchange) will be closed for trading on March 8th, 2024. This results in a halt of all trading activities within the Indian stock market for the day. As outlined in the March 2024 stock market holiday schedule, trading will remain suspended at both BSE and NSE throughout the entire Friday session on March 8th, 2024.

As indicated in the official stock market holidays list for 2024 on bseindia.com, trading activities across the Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment, and SLB Segment will be suspended today in observance of Mahashivratri 2024. Additionally, trading in the Currency Derivatives Segments will also be halted to mark the celebration of the Mahashivratri 2024 festival at the Indian stock market.

Trading in the Commodity Derivatives Segment and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment will be suspended during the morning session today, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, trading will resume during the evening session starting at 5:00 PM. This means that there will be no trading activity on MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) and NCDEX (National Commodity Exchange) during the morning hours, but trading in the Indian commodity market will be active from 5:00 PM to 11:55 PM in the evening session.

In March 2024, there are three stock market holidays scheduled. These holidays will take place on the 8th, 25th, and 29th of March 2024. On the 25th of March 2024, the stock market will be closed in observance of the Holi celebration. Similarly, on the 29th of March 2024, trading activities at both BSE and NSE will be suspended to commemorate Good Friday.

In April 2024, there are two stock market holidays scheduled on the 11th and 17th of April. On the 11th of April, the Indian stock market will be closed for the Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Id) celebrations. Similarly, on the 17th of April, trading activities at the Indian stock market will be suspended for the Ram Navami celebrations. Therefore, following the Mahashivratri festival, the next stock market holiday will occur on the 25th of March 2024 for the Holi festival.

On regular trading days, the Indian stock market commences operations at 9:15 AM, with trading activities at both NSE and BSE continuing until 3:30 PM. The pre-open session begins at 9:00 AM and concludes after a 15-minute duration, ending at 9:15 AM.

In the commodity segment, trading at MCX and NCDEX starts at 9:00 AM. The commodity market operates in two sessions: morning and evening. Morning sessions run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, while evening sessions run from 5:00 PM to either 11:30 PM or 11:55 PM, based on market body guidelines. Currently, the evening session concludes at 11:55 PM, but starting from March 11th, 2024, it will end at 11:30 PM.
